Sartorial Resolutions 2012

Long overdue for a resolution list, especially in the middle of February. But let's just say it took me a long time to come up with these resolutions -- better late than never, right?
This year, my biggest goal is to streamline my wardrobe so that I actually wear everything I have.I really only wear the same things over and over again, and it's such a waste to hog things just because I like looking at them. Clothes and shoes are meant to be worn!

Another motivation for getting rid of junk is my living situation. This year marks the 6th anniversary of my living in a dorm-esque setting. Naturally, packing my life together at the end of the school year is dreaded yet inevitable. Besides the obvious bulky things like books and bedding, clothes take up most of my space, so hopefully de- cluttering will shorten my packing process.

Will I be able to follow these resolutions? It will be difficult for sure; especially number 1. But I read from some cheesy motivational book a long time ago that if you repeat something for 20 days, it will become a habit. Hopefully these minimalistic routines will become a part of me for the next 20 years.

1) No purchasing clothing items/beauty items for the whole year
- Especially dresses!!! Too many frocks hang sadly in my closet, never seeing the light of day for months.
- I am already really scared for this one. :(

2)Donate/Sell/Throwout anything that I haven't worn for 6 months
- Why do I keep all those tattered flats? Throw them out and only keep sturdy, good ones.
- Donate all random t-shirts to goodwill, only keep nice ones from Alexander Wang, etc.

3)Take care of my things
- Wipe down shoes with babywipes to maintain the insides clean. Stuff leather bags with tissue paper and keep them in their dusts so as to maintain the shape and the leather. The fabulous blogger Wendy of Wendy's Lookbook had a great video on cleaning Christian Louboutins, which can really work for any nice shoes. The peanut butter method of getting sticker tags off shoes was really good! Probably the oils interact with the sticky glue, which loosens it off.
- Wear shoes around 4~5 times before getting the cobbler to resole the bottoms -- this lets me walk around in the rain without ruining my shoes forever!

4)Adhere to a 1-in/1-out system
- If you really really really really^1000 want it, throw out/get rid of 1 thing before you buy it. It's like the law of conservation of mass(shoes)! Lavoisier, get at me.

5)Tailor clothing you already have to create 'new' items
- I have pants and skirts that I don't wear because they don't fit me right. If I get them tailored, I'll reach for them more. This goes for pants as well.

and now for some fun resolutions

6)Take pictures of my outfit pairings to start on a wardrobe archive
- I've always admired pairings from Chocolate, Cookies and Candies and MaiTai's Picturebook. Admittedly, they have a more elegant style than I do but I love the idea of it.

Well, wish me luck! I hope to report on this with a pairing soon. As soon as I find a good place to take pictures in my apartment. Photography is not my cup of tea...
